How to play Munchmaze

Munchmaze is a free multiplayer maze game for up to 8 players, right in your browser. Everyone eats the glowing pellets, a power orb makes you the hunter, and the maze seals in from the outside. Eat, grab the orb, eat the others before the walls close in. Play with friends, or jump in and bots fill the maze.

The goal

Every round starts with a 3 s countdown on one of 3 mazes (Hollow, Crossways, Keep), each one mirrored so no start is better than another. You run the corridors at a steady pace, eating the pellets as you pass. A power orb makes you powered for 7 s: 35% faster, and any unpowered muncher you touch is eaten and out for the round. Two powered munchers just bounce off each other.

The last muncher standing wins the round. If the 90-second clock runs out, the most pellets eaten that round wins it. First to 3 round wins takes the match; the host can pick a longer one in the lobby. In your first match, short hints show you how to turn and what the orb does.

Controls

📱 Phone and tablet

  • Swipe anywhere to turn: up, down, left or right.
  • Swipe before the corner: the turn waits for the next opening and takes it for you.
  • Tap DASH for a burst along the corridor.
  • The camera follows you; the maze is a little bigger than your screen.

🖱️ Computer

  • The arrow keys or WASD turn you.
  • Press a turn early: it's kept until the next opening that way, then taken. Press the opposite way to turn back at once.
  • Shift, Space or E dashes along the corridor.
  • The whole maze is on screen.

Pellets and orbs

Every corridor starts full of pellets, and every 20 s the empty ones come back in a wave, so there's always a trail to chase. Each maze has a handful of orb spots; an eaten orb comes back 12 s later. Your power flashes for its last 1.7 s: that's the moment to break off a chase, and the moment to turn and fight if you're the one being chased.

The walls close in

35 and 62 seconds into a round, the outer corridors fill with stone. You get a 3.5 s warning: the doomed corridors glow red and pulse. Anyone still inside when the band seals is out of the round. Each seal takes away a whole ring of the maze, so the last survivors meet in the middle.

Dash

A dash is a short burst along the corridor you're in, ready every 6 s. Use it to snatch an orb before someone else, to close the last gap on a fleeing muncher, or to break away from one.

Tips

  • Press your turns early. The buffered turn is the whole trick: you never slow down at a corner.
  • Know where the orbs come back. Standing near one when it returns is worth more than a corridor of pellets.
  • Powered? Chase along long straight corridors, and dash to finish. Your speed wins on the straights, not around corners.
  • Hunted? Turn corners. A powered muncher coming the other way down a corridor is a corner you should take.
  • Watch the red glow. Leave the outer ring before it seals: the warning is short, and a dash gets you out.
  • Behind on the clock? Eat. When time runs out, pellets decide it.

Questions

Is Munchmaze free?
Yes. It's free to play in your browser: no download, no signup, no ads.
Is it like a maze chase game?
Yes. Everyone runs the same maze eating pellets, and a power orb turns you into the hunter for a few seconds: any muncher you touch is out. Then the maze starts sealing in from the outside, so every round ends fast.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, on phones, tablets and computers. On a phone, swipe anywhere to turn and tap DASH for a burst. The camera follows you.
How do I play with friends?
Open the game, tap With friends and share the room link. Friends who open it join your room, and the host picks when to start and how many rounds the match is.
Are there bots?
Yes. Bots fill the maze up to 6 munchers so a match can always start, and they're always labeled as bots. A maze holds up to 8; when a friend joins a full room, a bot gives up its seat.
How do I win?
The last muncher standing wins the round. If the 90-second clock runs out, whoever ate the most pellets that round wins it. The first to 3 round wins takes the match (the host can pick 3 to 11).
Do I need an account?
No. Your name and level are saved on your device.

Ready? Bots are always waiting in the maze.
